Aikido is a form of self-defense developed in Japan by Morihei Ueshiba Sensei which stresses learning to make harmony with opposing forces instead of combating them. It is a way of uniting body and mind to defend oneself through non-resistance rather than strength. The aspect of Aikido is defensive rather than offensive. This approach to aggression makes it a unique and powerful martial art.
At the Dojo, the style of Aikido offered is Hombu Aikido under the direction of Shihan, Shoji Nishio Sensei (8th dan Aikido, 7th dan laido, 6th dan Judo, & 5th dan Karate) in Japan.
laido is the Japanese martial art of sword drawing. At the Dojo, Aikido related sword drawing called Aikido Toho Iai created by Shoji Nishio Sensei (8th dan Aikido and 7th dan laido, 6th dan Judo, & 5th dan Karate) is taught. Forms represent Aikido principles and techniques.
On his final trip to the U.S., Nishio Sensei publicly announced Koji Yoshida to be his official representative to the United States. In 2004, Nishio Sensei published his first and only book entitled, Aikido: Yurusu Budo (“Budo of Acceptance”). In early 2005 he passed away leaving a rich legacy to the budo world. |
