Taika Oyata Sensei

Ryu Te® is a traditional form of karate from the Ryukyu (Okinawan) Islands, which are located to the south of Japan. Ryu Te® emphasizes effective self-defense; the techniques aim at taking control of an opponent while avoiding the use of excessive force which would injure or maim him. Ryu Te® is definitely not a sport, and not a form of exercise - it is a method of training the body and the mind. Ryu Te® can be learned by anyone regardless of age, sex, or strength.

In addition to striking, kicking, and blocking, Ryu Te® includes many grappling, locking, and escape` techniques (called tuite jitsu), striking techniques which aim at the body's weak points to temporarily disable an opponent without injuring him (called kyusho jitsu), weapons techniques, and forms (kata). Ryu Te® students learn a wide range of techniques and how to use force prudently to control an attacker.
